Club Notes: Week ending – 24th of September 2017

Senior Championship:

Well done to the senior men on their win versus Naomh Muire in Dunfanaghy on Sunday. The final score was 1.14 to 1.13 and it ensured we’d compete in the Senior Championship for the 2018 season. This week we are home to Glenfin. Please keep an eye on social media for details.

Under-10 Hurling:

On Saturday 23rd September the U10 team traveled to Healy Park, Omagh for an U10 tournament hosted by Omagh St Endas GAC. 20 clubs from 8 Ulster counties attended the tournament with matches played across 3 different venues. MacCumhaills were in a group with teams from St Endas Omagh (Tyrone), Castleblayney (Monaghan), Swatragh (Derry), Cappagh (Tyrone) and Gort na Mona (Antrim). MacCumhaills topped their group, winning all their matches and scoring a total of 10-10 and conceding 1-04. In the semi-final they were paired with Ballinascreen (Derry) and came out on top with a scoreline of 2-04 to 0-0. In the final MacCumhaills came up against the host team St Endas and this turned out to be a very close affair. MacCumhaills scored first but St Endas replied with a goal to lead by 2 points early in the 2nd half. MacCumhaills scored the next 3 points to lead by 1 going into the final stages. St Endas scored a point from a free in the last minute to tie up the match at full time. Extra time was required and MacCumhaills outscored their hosts 2-02 to no score in this period to emerge victorious in a very entertaining final. The team played exceptionally well today and it was a fitting reward to end a long season. The happy team were presented with their winners trophy and medals by Martin Fogarty a former selector/coach with Brian Cody and the Kilkenny senior team. Thanks to the host club St Endas Omagh for their hospitality throughout the day and for running a very professional and enjoyable tournament. Finally thanks to the coaches and parents who looked after the team on the day.

Under-8 boys football.

Another great day out for our super u8 boys.

This morning we hosted 30 boys from Buncrana in MacCumhaill Park. With 4 highly competitive games being played over the hour, our lads were brillant, showing great skills and teamwork. They played tough but fair and battled hard for every ball.

Thanks to all the coaches, helpers, referees and a special thanks to the ladies who helped with the refreshments. It was great to see so many parents out supporting these young boys.

The Bingo takes place in The Villa Rose Hotel on Sunday night with an 8.30pm start. The Snowball jackpot is €9,000 for 45 numbers or less. All are very welcome.

There was no winner of this week’s lotto. The numbers drawn were 23, 24, 27 and 28. There were 3 match 3 winners: Vivian Deery c/o the lotto, Maria Callaghan, Buncrana and Karen Houston who each receive €30. Next week’s lotto prize is €3,800 and Terry O’Reilly’s team is selling.
